Surgical Instructions

Please note the following important information when arranging a spay or neuter procedure for your dog or cat:

  • An appointment is required for the surgical procedure.
  • Spay/neuter admittance for dogs is Monday to Friday at 8:15 a.m. Spay/Neuter admittance for cats is Monday to Friday at 8:30 a.m.
  • Preoperative exams are needed for all animals 3 years of age or older, cryptorchid, brachycephalic to discuss their unique needs.
  • Examinations and/or extra fees apply for: mature animals(>12months), pregnant, retained testes, umbilical hernias, brachycephalic breeds, retained baby teeth and other procedures.
  • Animals must have up to date vaccinations (or guardian will be required to sign a waiver)
  • The BC SPCA Vancouver Animal Hospital will not spay dogs in heat.
  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is recommended to be done prior to any general anesthetic but is not mandatory for healthy, young animals solely to make prices more accessible to more people.
  • Pre and post-operative IV fluids are recommended for all animals but not mandatory for healthy animals under 12 months, solely to make prices accessible to more people.
